Climate Change, Food Security and Population Movement in Drylands

A workshop organized in the context of the EU COST Action “Drylands facing change” (CA16233) in Arad, organized by The Dead Sea and Arava Science Center, Israel

Climate change is one of the most significant global phenomena in the early twenty-first century. As such, it represents a new and emerging set of challenges for food security as well as for population movement in drylands of Africa, Middle East, and Central and South Asia. In recent years, these topics have come to the center of attention of policymakers, and there is a large community of scholars studying these phenomena. The purpose of this workshop is to focus debates about climate change impacts on (i) food security in drylands, and (ii) population dynamics and movement in drylands. The aim of this workshop is to prepare two policy briefs dealing with two mentioned topics which will be published soon after the end of the workshop. In this way, the workshop aims to catalyze academic research at the interface of climate change and food security with a particular emphasis on migration, resilience, and adaptation. This is an agenda-setting workshop.
