Short summary of the lecture:
Rivki described how she harness the “wisdom of the desert plants” and try to develop leads for drugs against cancer, Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer`s disease, and for healthy aging.
Rivki elaborate on the uniqueness of the desert plant chemotypes and suggest that In the process of desert plants domestication, several biosynthesis pathways are shut down or activated and as result, the lost the ability to produce active moieties found in desert conditions. Rivki emphasis that we need to design domestication protocols that mimic desert conditions.
Dr. Ofir suggest that research of desert plants is very important as it contribute to the efforts to preserve the knowledge, the genetic and chemotype resources of desert plants especially in days of climate changes and desertification.
